Prague Castle
Here's another one. My wife picked it from a short list. However all photos could do with improvements. This is a shot of Prague Castle in the Czech Republic.
Prague Castle
Canon PowerShot S30 at 105mm EFL
1/320s, f/5.6 & ISO ???
What do you all think? Could it grace the pages of a travel magazine?
The Good: I like the colours, and the reflection in the water. It looks like warm afternoon sun to me. It gives off a nice feel.
The Bad: I wish the sky was a little more blue. Also, it's not obvious if there is a specific subject for this shot or if it is just showing that all of the buildings are very close together.
I still like it though. I don't think it would make a great full page picture in a travel magazine, but it would be nice as a supplemental image to support a closeup of the castle in my opinion.
I'd probably agree with Craig here, in that I'm not quite sure what the focus of the image is. It's a nice jumble of buildings.
In terms of colour, I actually find that they're a bit too saturated for my taste. (that said, my monitor isn't colour calibrated, so take that for what it's worth).
Probably the biggest thing for me though is a desire to see what's outside the frame. I think this would make a great shot with a landscape format, but not taking away from what is already there, just adding a bit more on the left and right sides. Obviously not that easy at this point.
I have to agree, I'm not sure what the subject is here either. Some more buildings on either side would help make the castle more obvious. It's hard to see here, but this is the middle of the castle.
Geoff,
Colours are a little extra saturated. I kind of like strong colour and contrast. What draws me to this image is the colourful buildings.
