Sand

Here's an interesting pattern study from the Thar Desert of Rajasthan, India.

I like the harmony of shape and line created by the action of wind on sand.

However it looks too simplistic. I think I need something to break up the repetition. Any advice on what I could have used?

  1. Hi Steve,

    I really like this one.

The way the lines all tend to go together and head up the dune is really good. I also like that there are no footprints, or man made structures in the image.

It makes me feel like I'm way out in the desert.

Can you tell me how high you were above the ground when you took this photo? Were you very low down, or were you standing at normal height? I'm curious to understand how you got the pattern to line up so nicely.

    Nice work.

    Regards
    Craig.

  2. Hi Craig,

I spent a few hours walking around this area looking for the right angle where I could get the lines leading into the image without any hand of man in the frame. Finding a place with no footprints was the hardest part.

When I took this image, I had the camera about 1-2 feet above the ground. I wanted to get really close to the foreground sand patterns. However in doing so, I exceeded my maximum depth of field so the foreground is a little soft. Two or three shots, focus stacked would have made a better image but I didn't have a tripod.
