Fire
Taken with Canon EOS 550D using Canon EF-S 18-200mm IS lens
1/2000 sec at f/5.6, ISO 6400, Focal Length 190mm (EFL 304mm)
A nice arty shot. When I think about the ideas of a fire I get active, movement, destruction and chaos. I think this captures some of those ideas.
It the angle of the tongues of flame are very dynamic. They fill the frame nicely without being too long or short. Three tongues are more dynamic than one or two adding to the chaos feel. They all point in the same direction which adds some harmony to the image yet each tongue is different, thus slowing the eye down to more appreciate their individual shape and form.
If I were to shoot this shot again I would perhaps try to get the logs of the fire on a stronger angle starting from bottom left and leading into the image more. Now the logs are more vertical and a little too static for such a subject.

Brutal Enough?

Hi Geoff,
ReplyDeleteI hadn't considered trying to photograph fire before, but now its on my list.
I agree with Steve, that the 3 fingers of flame really do make this work out well.
It's really interesting to see the details in the flame itself too.
It's a nice shot, and very clever too.
Cheers
Craig.
